History of the Ministry
Whilst the agricultural sector can look back on a long history of being a key part of the Ministry, with the “Imperial and Royal Ministry of Agriculture” being established as early as 1868, the Ministry of the Environment as it is known today is comparatively young: It will celebrate its 40-year anniversary this year.

150th Anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Agriculture
11 January 1868 saw the birth of the Imperial and Royal Ministry of Agriculture. In 2018 our Ministry of Agriculture will be celebrating its 150th birthday. Read about the eventful beginnings of the history of our Ministry.

History of the Ministry
During the days of the monarchy peasants accounted for about three quarters of the population. Securing their livelihood has been a key task of the Ministry since its establishment in 1918.

100th Anniversary of the Government Building
On 11 June 2013, an official ceremony was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the Government Building at Stubenring. Today, the building serves as the seat of four ministries.

The "Stubenring Transmitter"
What then happened in the Government Building on Stubenring was radio history in the making: Together with the "Stubenring Transmitter", the building was home to the country's very first radio studio.
