Waste Prevention Programme 2017

As of December 2017 the thematic focus of waste prevention was defined for the coming years. A multitude of individual measures need to be carried out to ensure a successful waste prevention policy.

By means of the Federal Waste Management Plan of 2017, the Austria-wide Waste Prevention Programme was updated for the second time. Numerous experts helped prepare the Programme and in the framework of the public participation process many ideas were presented, for which we would like to say thank you at this point.

The 2017 Waste Prevention Programme is designed as an all-Austrian programme and invites all stakeholders, whether private or from companies, to participate in the implementation on local, regional and national level.

With the help of the about 90 measures focusing on construction waste, food waste, re-use, avoidance in companies/organisations and in households, prevention potentials in these fields can be implemented to a wider extent. Change is required both in production and in consumption.

Note: An accessible version of this Programme is available in Chapter 5 of the Federal Waste Management Plan 2017 (www.bundesabfallwirtschaftsplan.at).
