In Austria, 23,000 agricultural holdings already derive a formidable share of their income from direct marketing. Of these, 4,000 have organised themselves in associations (to the exclusion of viticulture and various sectoral associations, such as for fruit and vegetables).
The quality programme "Gutes vom Bauernhof" (Good products from farms) was set up to promote the professionalization of direct marketing. The "Gutes vom Bauernhof" project can be described in two words: quality and security. Roughly 1,600 holdings in six different Federal Provinces have already been certified as "Gutes vom Bauernhof" farms. Efforts to include the remaining Federal Provinces in the "Gutes vom Bauernhof" scheme have already come a long way thanks to the strategic implementation stages of the "Cluster Direktvermarktung" project.
